The match was allowed to proceed regardless of the crush

No less than two folks have been killed and about 19 injured in a crush at South Africa’s largest stadium, Johannesburg’s mayor has mentioned.

It came about through the Soweto derby between soccer golf equipment Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in Johannesburg.

Orlando Pirates mentioned the crush occurred when folks tried to push their approach by the gates in to the 87,000-capacity FNB stadium.

Authorities allowed the pre-season cup recreation to proceed.

Public security official Michael Solar mentioned on Twitter that every one gates on the stadium had been opened to make sure crowd management and that the scenario was later introduced underneath management.

Reuters mentioned reside tv protection of the match, which Kaizer Chiefs received 1-Zero, confirmed no apparent disturbance.

The stadium served because the venue for Nelson Mandela’s first speech after his launch from jail in 1990, and is the place the memorial for Mr Mandela was held in 2013.

It was rebuilt for the 2010 soccer World Cup, the place it was referred to as Soccer Metropolis and hosted the ultimate between Spain and the Netherlands.

In April 2001, 43 supporters died in a crush throughout one other match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on the Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg.
